OVERVIEW- Bhubaneswar is one of the fames cities of Odisha, it is the capital of the state. The city is among one of the oldest cities of India, finding its origin around 2nd Century BC during the Chedi Dynasty. Bhubaneswar got its name from Tribhubaneswar meaning Lord Shiva. Known as the Temple City, Bhubaneswar has a unique position by virtue of the ability to seamlessly integrate its rich cultural heritage with a strong regional economic base. Founded during the Kalinga empire over 3,000 years ago, Bhubaneswar today boasts of a cluster of magnificent temples, constituting a complete record of Odisha temple architecture from its early beginnings to its culmination.

BHUBANESWAR- Bhubaneswar, popularly known as The Temple City of India is an important pilgrimage centre with hundreds of temples in this old town. Bhubaneshwar is the capital of Odisha. The city is flanked by Bay of Bengal in the East, West Bengal in the North East, Jharkhand in the North, Chhattisgarh in the West and Andhra Pradesh in the South. Today Bhubaneshwar is the bustling centre of commerce. Having merged its past with its modern aspirations, it forms an integral link in the golden triangle that includes the holy cities of Puri and Konark.

DAY 1: BHUBANESWAR

Welcome at Bhubaneswar Airport / Railway Station. Transfer to the hotel. After breakfast, visit the temple city of Bhubaneswar.

LINGARAJ TEMPLE- The temple is an ancient temple with great religious importance. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as the name suggests, it is visited by a huge number of devotees throughout the year. The temple is a spectacular specimen of Orissa style of temple with a hint of Kalinga style of architecture.

RAJA RANI TEMPLE- The temple is situated in the capital of Orissa was earlier known as Indreswara Temple. Raja Rani temple is one of the most renowned and popular temples situated in the capital of Orissa. It is founded in 18th century and is temple devoted to Lord Brahma. Beautiful sculptures are carved on the walls of the temple.

PARASURAMESWARA TEMPLE- Constructed in 650 A.D. this temple is a unique specimen of Oriyan style of architecture. The most special feature of this temple is the presence of one thousand lingas in the north-west corner of the complex. Besides this, it is adorned with beautiful carvings of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The artistic splendor with which the detailing of the sculptures and carvings are done reflects the glory of the era gone by.

MUKTESHWARA TEMPLE- dedicated to Lord Shiva is a 10th century temple and presents a quintessential example of the longevity of the Kalinga style of architecture. This temple has beautiful sculptures and carvings depicting the various Panchatantra stories.

DAY 2: BHUBANESWAR

After breakfast, visit the famous Jain Caves.

UDAYGIRI & KHANDGIRI CAVES - The caves, 6 km from West of Bhubaneswar city centre, were chiseled out for the ascetic Jain monks, also has some inscriptions describing the exploits of king Kharavel.

NANDANKANAN ZOO - About 20 km from city centre is a Zoo and a botanical garden surrounded by dense forest, famous for breeding of various endangered species, safaris and white tigers.

DHAULI HILLS- 8 km south of the present Bhubaneswar, across the Daya River, Dhauli has major edicts of Ashoka engraved on a mass of rock. It is presumed to be the area of the bloody battle of Kalinga, won by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka in 265 BC.

PIPLI- A small village enveloped in a blaze of color, 15 km South of Bhubaneswar, on the highway to Puri, is home of applique work. The craft originated to serve temples, providing intricately stitched colored awnings and covers for deities and hangings for festival days, details on the craft.

DAY 3: BHUBANESWAR

Day free for leisure and later depart at airport/station to catch your flight/train towards onward destination.
