One of the famous sites of the Chardham Yatra, the Badrinath Dham has allured tremendous devotees to the joyous Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The ancient mythology depicts the value of the Badrinath Mandir with the legend of meditation of Lord Vishnu for complete 1000 years under a Badri Tree for the welfare of humanity and since then the location is considered sacred by establishing the shrine of Lord Badrinath in the meditative pose; and to spellbound tremendous devotees, there are other captivating images and idols of Lord Vishnu.

The one meter tall Lord Vishnu imposing structure lying amidst the Nar Narayan temple with its three sacred sections including the Garbhagriha, Sabha-Mandap and Darshan-Mandap is the reason for the fame of whole the Chamoli district. Along with the shrine of Badrinath temple, there are other fascinations that captivate people for thronging across the holy destination and that include Tapt Kund and Surya Kund and famous Panch Badri.

Badrinath Yatra is a real manifesto to realize the human values and respect humanity and so a visit to such a sacred place is worthwhile.

Rich with unique splendour of natural charm, admist Gandhmadan mountain, situated on the bank of continuously flowing rippling waters of river Alaknanda, Badrinath is the most sacred pilgrimage place of Hindu religion. It is believed that at one time dense trees of jujube surrounded this place and was called Badrivan. The bewitching beauty of this place provides serenity to eyes.

Badrinath Temple:- Badrinath Temple, centre of belief of devotees is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Adi Shankaracharaya built this fifteen feet high temple. There are fifteen idols of different god- goddesses. The most sacred among these is one meter high statue of Lord Vishnu in black stone. Near Badrinath Temple, Tapt Kund, BrahmKapal, Sheshnetra, Charanpaduka, Neelknath, Pandukeshwar, Mata Murti Mandir, Mana Gaon are also worth seeing.

Santopanth :- It is believed that on this three cornered lake, the three corners are dwelling places of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

Govind Ghat:- Govind Ghat is the junction of Alaknanda and Laxman Ganga rivers. It is the main camp for journey to the valley of flowers and Hem Kund Saheb.

Valley of Flowers :- Laden with beautiful flowers, this charming valley was first seen by British mountaineer Frank S Smith in 1931. He wrote a book named 'Valley of Flowers', then the attention of whole world was attracted towards this place. It is situated at a 19 km walking distance from Govind Ghat of which the base camp is Ghangharia. This whole valley becomes flower laden during blossoming- season of July and August.

Hem Kund Saheb:- Hem Kund Saheb is a sacred abode of Sikhs and is 20km away from Govindghat. There is a Gurudwara, Laxman Temple and a magnificent natural lake at this place.

Joshimath:- Joshimath is a prominent religious place established by Adi Shakaracharaya. During winter season, when the gates of Badrinath are closed, worship of idol of god Badrinath is carried out here. There is also a little distance in Seldhara Tapovan, the natural source of boiling hot water and fountains are worth seeing.

The distance between Badrinath and Kedarnath is 250 kms and is approachable by road only via Chamoli. The nearest railway head is Haridwar.
