OVERVIEW- The small shore town of Somnath in Gujarat earns much of its claim to fame for being one of the most important pilgrim places in Gujarat. It lies in the confluence where River Saraswati is said to flow into the sea. Somnath or Pattan Somnath is located in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval in Saurashtra, on the western coast of the State of Gujarat. Somnath, literally means Lord of Moon, derived its name from the temple Somnath temple. This religious destination was earlier known as ˜Prabhas Patan'. This town, unaffected by the modern luxuries and concrete jungles, still holds its historical, mythological and religious appeal to masses of Hindu devotees.
AHMEDABAD- It is the largest city in Gujarat, associated with the great thinker and freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi. It is an exclusive blend of Hindu and Islamic styles of architecture. The city's prosperous and eventful past and present is embodied in its rich kaleidoscope of history, art and culture, rich architecture and imposing monuments. The city is a famous business hub and is well known for chemical and textile industries.
RAJKOT- Once the capital of the princely state of Saurashtra, Rajkot is now an important industrial city of the West Indian state of Gujarat. It is also popular as the place where Mahatma Gandhi had spent the initial years of his life and gained early education from a school. Home to some striking gardens, ashrams, lakes and temples, Rajkot is also quite popular for its handicraft items, jewelry market and special tie and dye or Bandhani, a beautiful cloth material.
JAMNAGAR- It is called as the Jewel of Kathiawad. It was a princely state of considerable importance and is rich in relics from the time of the Jadeja Rajput kings locally known as the Jam Sahibs. Adjacent to the Kutch region in northwestern Gujarat, Jamnagar is a very calm and quiet destination with temples, palaces, forest, Bird and Marine Sanctuaries.
SOMNATH- Somnath - this beautiful beach destination in Gujarat is best known for its shore temple. The temple is a magnificent structure that enshrines one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Many temples dot the city scape of Somnath and it boasts of quite a few mosques as well but these structures are not merely places of worship.
