Founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411 Ahmedabad was the erstwhile capital of the Gujarat Sultanate. Situated on the banks of the River Sabarmati Ahmedabad is the most important city of Gujarat. It is the seventh largest metropolitan city in India. A very important city from the point of view of industrial development Ahmedabad has been nicknamed the Manchester of the East for its booming textile industry.
